The Inspiration Behind
For Autumn Winter 2018, Lock Couture presents its latest collection entitled; ‘The Muse’.
Inspired by Loulou de la Falaise, the well-known muse of Yves Saint Laurent, the 9-piece capsule – of which all styles are named after Loulou herself – takes inspiration from her relationship with the designer, as well as her own personal style.
With an emphasis on opulence and classic style, the collection heroes fabric in a dark and stormy colour palette of deep violet, black and rich burgundy. Crafted from the finest cashmere, wool and silk boucle, each hat explores and celebrates the different sides of Loulou’s personality and extraordinary life as a muse, in what would have been the year of her 70th birthday.
Styles within the collection include ‘Loulou’, a chic purple turban made from Satin. The Turban is a hat particularly associated with Yves Saint Laurent and Loulou alike, with the iconic muse even wearing one to her wedding to French writer Thadée Klossowski in 1977. Often referred to as ‘The Peak of Chic’, a peaked cloche hat of the same name is made from tweed and adorned with a brown paisley silk bow, championing a demure yet eye-catching aesthetic. ‘Vava’ (Loulou’s middle name) takes form as a large navy cashmere double bow hat, whilst ‘Irreplaceable’ (a word Saint Laurent often used to describe her), is an oversized velvet beret in a deep purple echoing Loulou’s exuberant style and personality, which made her stand out among any crowd and act as one of history’s most memorable figures in fashion.
Other styles within the collection include; the ‘Bohemia’ boater, ‘Henriette’ fedora, ‘The Muse’ cloche, Fedora style ‘Thadeé’ and bowler style ‘Bloomsbury’
Effortlessly striking, the collection, designed by Lock Couture’s milliner Prudence, is an ode to timeless elegance and women of sartorial power.
